As with everywhere else we go, the food is the best part! We had amazing Brazilian food, but also some excellent Asian food given the large (particularly Japanese) diaspora in Brazil. We wished that we’d had more time to eat – we didn’t get to try nearly as many places and cuisines that we’d wanted.
Sao Paulo has a large fine dining scene too, and we took advantage of the opportunity to take H to her first Michelin-starred restaurant. We picked Mani as it was within walking distance from where we were staying and had a la carte options, which seemed a little more approachable for a five year old as compared to a tasting menu. It was delicious! Mani has one Michelin star and is on the Top 50 Restaurants Latin America list.
And, per usual, we didn’t manage to take that many pictures. But here’s what we got!
Pasteis, one H’s favorite Brazilian snacks. These were the best ones of the trip:

Moqueca, Brazilian seafood stew most associated with the Northeastern region of Bahia (from Consulado de Bahia):

The famous mortadella sandwich at Bar Do Mané in the Municipal Market. It’s famous for the sheer amount of meat stuffed onto the sandwich. It was very tasty, but honestly, I kinda wish we’d skipped this in favor of one of the bajillion other restaurants on our list:

Did you know that cashews grow on a piece of fruit? We didn’t, but got to try the juicy fruit at the market:

Best breakfast that also felt healthy, this “green sandwich” with pesto, avocado, mozzarella, and greens on a fresh-baked seed roll (from Pacado do Mani):

Fancy croissants from Mintchi Croissant:

H ate her weight in pão de queijo on this trip; she had them at least once a day:

Brigadeiros and other treats for wedding desserts:

Last one. Corn ice cream. Sounds weird to my American palate, but you gotta try it. So, so delicious:

If the food was the best part of the trip, the murals of Sao Paulo were the second-best part! A few favorites:
